Becoming a Coach
Every season, Bow View Ringette relies on volunteer coaches to guide players on and off the ice. Whether you're a parent looking to get more involved, a former player wanting to give back, or a teen athlete ready to take on a leadership role, there's a coaching path for you. Here's what it takes to get started.
Coaching Roles at Bow View
Bow View has a few different Team Staff roles you can apply for:
Head Coach
Assistant Coach
Junior Coach (for athletes aged 14–17)
On Ice Assistant
Managers and Trainers are also part of the Team Staff but don't need to complete the coach application process.
How to Apply: First-Time Coaches
If you've never coached with Bow View before, here's the process:
Create a coach.ca account through the Coach Locker and get your NCCP number.
Complete the online application for your role on the Bow View website (Team Staff Information page).
Register in RAMP as potential Team Staff.
Get a valid Police Check on file with Bow View.
Complete the rest of the Team Staff checklist for your specific role.
Returning Coaches
If you've coached with Bow View before, the process is a bit shorter:
Complete the online application for your role.
Register in RAMP as potential Team Staff.
Confirm your Police Check is still valid (these last three seasons from the date first completed; Managers and Junior Coaches don't need one).
Complete any remaining items on the Team Staff checklist.
Keep in mind that requirements can change if you move to a different age division or tier, so it's worth double-checking the checklist each season.
Becoming a Junior Coach
Athletes between 14 and 17 (14 by December 15, with mid-season entry allowed) can apply to be a Junior Coach for a team in a younger age division. Junior Coaches are a great way for older players to build leadership skills, though they never replace the mandatory, fully certified adult coach required on every roster.
To apply:
Create a coach.ca account and get an NCCP number.
Complete the Junior Coach application.
Register in RAMP as Team Staff (a parent registers using their own account).
Wait to hear from the Junior Coach Coordinator, who will match you with a team.
A Few Things to Know
All on-ice Team Staff must wear a certified helmet with the chin strap secured — no exceptions, at any division.
Bow View reimburses coaching courses (CSI, CI, CI Evaluation, and MED) for up to three coaches per team per season, for courses required at your current division and tier.
Coaching resources — including practice planning tools, a goaltending manual, and sample emergency action plans — are available on the Bow View website.
